Fin5 2020 will be organized in 2021

Fin5 2020 Orienteering week will be organized in 2021 due to the coronavirus situation. Fin5 Orienteering Week will be held from 11 to 16 July 2021 in Posio and Kuusamo. Originally, Fin5 Orienteering Week was scheduled for July 5-10, 2020.

The transfer was decided unanimously by the club organizing the competition, Kuusamon Erä-Veikot, and the Finnish Orienteering Federation. In addition, the issue was discussed with the partner club, Posion Pyrintö and the main partners of the event. In connection with the decisions and information, the aim was to work together with the Kainuu Orienteering Week, which was to be held from 28 June to 3 July 2020 in Suomussalmi. In both weeks, there is strong cooperation with various partners and actors regarding the arrangements.

– We have been closely monitoring the coronavirus situation since March and have been considering various options for implementing Orienteering Week. The Finnish government has made significant restrictions on the movement of people and the organization of events. It was announced last week that public events for more than five hundred people will be banned until the end of July. In the end, this was such information that the board of Kuusamon Erä-Veikot ry had to make this necessary transfer decision for next year, says Seppo Linjakumpu, Secretary General of the Fin5 2020 event.

– The organization of the event for 2000-3000 people involved many different risks for the health of the public, participants, helpers and the local population, as well as for the financial success of the event, so there was no possibility to organize Orienteering week this summer, says competition director Antti Häkämies.

– The transfer of the event is a bad setback for the regional economy of the Northeast region, as it was the largest single event in the region this summer. The week-long orienteering week brings vitality and vitality to the area, which unfortunately will now move on to the next year, Seppo Linjakumpu continues.

The registrations of the participants who registered for the Orienteering week will be transferred until 2021, because the organizing club will keep the already registered registrations and the initial participation fees valid. Regarding new registrations and possible cancellations, things will be announced later on the event website and on social media.

No new Fin5 event organizer had yet been appointed for 2021, so the transfer of the Orienteering week will therefore be smooth by a joint decision of the Finnish Orienteering Federation and Kuusamon Erä-Veikot Ry.

More information coming on Monday 27th April

The government of Finland outlined yesterday, April 22, “that the ban on public events for more than 500 people should be extended until at least July 31.”

As a result, the organizers of Fin 5 2020 Orienteering Week (5-10.7.20) will meet during the rest of the week to decide how to work with Fin 5 Orienteering Week and to provide more information about these on Mon 27.4.2020.

Strength to everyone during this spring,

– the organizers of Fin 5 – Orienteering Week from Kuusamo and Posio –

Almost 1100 participants already

At the end of February, the 2nd enrollment stage, raised the number of participants to nearly 1,100. The official number at the turn of the month was 1086, and there are also enrollments in fitness and family classes. The actual registration ends on 31.5.20.

Terrains and competition centers

The competition centers are located within a 33 – 63 km radius from Ruka. The first two competitions will take place at Posio, at the Kirintövaara ski center. The last three competitions will take place at Meskusvaara of Kuusamo, through a single competition center.

Runability and visibility good. Traditional northeast forested hills. Great height differences on long distances. Days 3. -> 5. will be on totally new areas with no previous orienteering competitions.

Already over 700 participants coming to Fin5 2020 Kuusamo-Posio

The day before the second cheaper enrollment step expires (Februar 28) there are already over 700 enrollees including fitness and family series. Seppo Linjakumpu, Secretary General of Fin5 2020 Kuusamo-Posio Orienteering Week, is pleased with the situation:

– We aim for 2000 racing orienteering and 500 fitness orienteering, so we are on schedule.

In 2014, 4,500 orienteerers competed in the Fin5 Orienteering Week in Kuusamo. At that time, there was no second orienteering week in Finland at that time.

– Now we are more realistic in the number of participants due to the fact that the Kainuu Rastiviikko will be orientated a week earlier in Suomussalmi.

There will be quite a lot of things happening in the northern orienteering field next summer, as the Jukolan ja Venlojen Viesti will also be navigated in the north, in Rovaniemi under the symbol of the Arctic Circle (Napapiiri).

– We cooperate with Napapiiri-Jukola and Kainuu Rastiviikko with marketing, materials and personnel, for example, Linjakumpu says.

Registration for Fin5 2020 Kuusamo Posio 5-10.7.2020

Another cheaper enrollment step expires February 28, 2020. The actual registration ends on 31.5 and the late registration can still done until 16.6.

Fitness orienteering has increased in popularity in recent years and today more and more participants are participating in fitness and family classes. Sure, you can still sign up for fitness training on the spot, but still the price is cheaper during the normal registration period.
